Devils Lake is Perfect for Industries in Agriculture and Much More!
Agriculture is a vital industry to the state of North Dakota, with gnarly 90% of the state’s land dedicated to agriculture. It is the leading producer in the country of pinto beans, navy beans, flaxseed, spring wheat, oats, honey, dry edible peas, durum and canola. And Devils Lake is no different.
Value-Added Agriculture
Agriculture and Value-Added Agriculture are target industries in Devils Lake. Natural and organic companies are growing here because the organic and fresh products are sourced locally from the surrounding agricultural community. One recent example of a successful Economic Development project is CoJack Snack and Pack LLC, an automated snack food and bean processing 125,000 square-foot facility that packs edible beans, popcorn and other snacks to ship throughout the nation. Forward Devils Lake along with the North Central Planning Council (NCPC) helped CoJACK take over ownership of the building with a creative financing program. As a result, Forward Devils Lake/NCPC and CoJACK won the North Dakota Governor’s Choice award for Best Economic Development Project in an Urban Community. See this video of the Award presentation by ND Governor Doug Burgum. CoJACK employs more than 30 individuals and can ship up to 25 truckloads of product per week to locations across the United States.
Agriculture Equipment Manufacturing
Another byproduct of the local agriculture community is the need for agricultural equipment. Businesses have found local success in supplying the local farmers with the equipment necessary to operate. New, small manufacturing companies or businesses requiring 15 to 40 workers to start are ideal. One example is Summers Manufacturing, founded in 1965 to build agricultural equipment for tillage, land rolling, spaying, rock removal and more.
Retirement
Devils Lake has built a recent reputation for being an excellent retirement community. SmartAsset ranked it #1 in North Dakota. With 1.5 doctors’ offices per 1,000 people, Devils Lake has the support systems necessary to make retirement living enjoyable and fruitful.
Outdoor Recreation
Whether on land or water, the Devils Lake area has much to offer. Literally a hunters’ and fisher’s paradise, fishing, waterfowl and upland game opportunities are seemingly endless. Residents and visitors alike can easily access perch, walleye, ducks, geese, grouse and partridge with a number of Outdoor Recreation businesses.
